We the undersigned petition the council to Openly review their Tenancy Agreement/Lettings Policy with a view to impose greater sanctions on those tenants who create an anti-social environment which negatively impacts other residents’ quality of life.

Anti-social behaviour can negatively effect Ashfield residents health. Long term exposure can require medical treatment to help with lack of sleep and depression. Many vulnerable people can be intimidated into silence. Ashfield District Council has a duty of care to every residents, and therefore should look into every option possible to alleviate any detrimental impact on other residents quality of life.

Council response

Pursuant to the provisions of Section 100(B) (4) (b) of the Local Government Act 1972, the Chairman of the Overview and Scrutiny Committee agreed to exercise his discretion to allow consideration of the petition as an urgent item at a meeting of the Overview and Scrutiny Committee on the 5 February, 2019. The Petition, alongside 3 questions from the Petition Organiser, was heard by the Committee and approved as a topic for the Scrutiny Workplan 2019/20 for it to be given greater consideration.
